Malta 2009

11 Members of the Black Company  spent a week  in April fighting on the streets of Mdina, the old capital city of Malta.

It really is a beautiful city and it was a great pleasure to patrol the city in kit, fight in it's ancient plazas and pose for the cameras.  We also got to see the film we made for the Mdina Experience on our last trip

During the festival, we spent between 6-7 hours in armour each day, putting on 3 fight sets and a number of patrols round the city.  It came as a real surprise to the guys that we were still able to stand at the end of it!  We have to say that the regular top ups of tea and cake from Palazzo Costanzo  and Fontanella’s helped greatly.

The highlight of the trip for us was fighting of the president of Malta, Dr. George Abela in St Paul’s Co-Cathedral square.

We also made every national newspaper and TV news program plus Polly and Scott ended up on a chat show!

Malta 2005/2006

Part of the Black Company under the banner “Swords of Dumnonia” participated in a number of re-enactment events as part of the Historic Cities festival, including the arrival of  “Count Roger” c. 1190.  In this particular event our group re-enacted the parts of Italio Normans, “Knights Hospitallers” and “Saracens”.

We fought at the old capital of Mdina, in both St Paul’s Co-Cathedral square and also Bastion Square.  Whilst there, we coined our motto ‘We Fight For Cake’ thanks to the vast quantity of cake we consumed at Fontanellas.

The event had national TV and media coverage.

Malta 2011

On behalf of the Black Company and in particular Zen, Toby, Scott & myself, I'd like to thank the people of Mdina, Mdina Local Council, Mayor Peter Sant Manduca, Executive Secretary Paul Spiteri and all the Maltese reenactors from the HRGM, Show of Arms & Anacronia who showed us such fantastic hospitality at this weekend's Medieval Mdina Festival .

We'd also like to thank the guys from The Freelancing Knights of Redemption and also Liudon Incorruptul for making it such an interesting week in the sun.

It's been a fantastic week, we've made a lot of new friends and caught up with some old ones too.

We hope see you all next year!
